John Curran, president and CEO of the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), has said that the Internet will run out of Internet addresses in about one year’s time

The main reason behind the scare of Internet address is due to large number of devices connecting to Internet such as Mobile phones, smart gadgets like washing machines, refrigerators, cooling devices.

The Internet Protocol version 4 uses 32-bit number to create an Internet address, it means maximum of 4 billion unique addresses. Internet Protocol, IPv6, is the next generation Internet Protocol which users 128-bit number to create an Internet address. It means billions of Internet addresses. It is enough to provide a unique address to each and every known devices.

John Curran from ARIN, the non-profit responsible for managing the distribution of Internet addresses in the North American region, told that of the approximately 4 billion IPv4 addresses available, all but 6% have already been allocated. Curran expects the final 6% to be allocated over the coming year.
